Business sector disagrees with the increase of price of electricity

Numerous manufacturing companies are significantly influenced with new, 20% increased, price of electric energy in supplying contracts for 2019 which are offered by EPS, Serbian electric energy supplier.

Similar increase already occurred in the beginning of 2018, so a total of 40% increase in only two year presents a serious blow for exporters who are forced to calculate increased price of electricity in their own prices, limiting their competitiveness on foreign markets.

Considering that price of gas for businesses in Serbia is higher than in many Western European economies, this increase of electricity poses a barrier to the growth of production and exports.

Main competitors of Serbian companies are companies from Eastern Europe, former Soviet Republic and Turkey, and in none of these countries electricity supply for industry has seen such an increase in price in the last two years.
